| Fake Superheros or God's Stunt Doubles? |
| |
On Tuesday, the second day of camp, Brad Stanley was the speaker and he challenged us with the following questions: If we are going to follow Jesus, what does He require of us? What does it look like to do God's stunts?
In Luke 10:25-37, one man asked Jesus what living a life of love toward God would look like. Jesus answered him with the parable of the Good Samaritan. Three men passed by the one in need. Two, the priest and the Levite, did nothing. They were like superheroes; just standing there and looking good, but doing nothing. Along came the Samaritan, the stunt double. He was willing to do the dirty work and not just look good. He did God’s stunts, allowing God to bring healing and restoration through him to the wounded man. Are we the fake Superhero or God’s Stunt-doule?
Brad told us that the dictionary says a stunt is an "extraordinary, sensational feat, a thrilling or unusual enterprise." Stunts are risky; it costs something to do stunts with God. For the Samaritan, it cost him time, comfort, reputation, money and resources. But the result was doing a "sensational feat" with God. Jesus invites all of us to do something extraordinary with Him.
In Luke 4:18-19, Jesus revealed where He was going and what He had come to do. He’d came to set people free! We can do these same stunts with God! Colossians 1:27 states that our Glory is "Christ in us.”We are God's wardrobes. Everyday He “puts us on” like a favorite and unique piece of clothing. Jesus wants to wear us so that He can do His "thrilling and sensational acts" through us. God wants our hearts to be willing to go where He wants us to go.
We can look like the fake Super Hero and leave the extraordinary feats to another, or we can be God's stunt double, and risk it all with God. Let’s be God’s stunt doubles here on the earth and allow Christ to love the world through us.

| AWAM Camp Wonderful!! |
Great things go with AWAM camp like cheese on a burger! Does that sound too “Cheesy-Wheesy”?
Well that’s just too bad because the first two days served up a plateful of wonderful opportunities: The teachings challenged campers to take flying leaps of faith for the Lord. The air rang with music and voices at morning worship and later vocal workshops. Participants learned to move their bodies to the rhythm of new choreography (Pretty awesome dance moves!)
Small group times provided one-on-one discipleship and in the afternoon, Delta had some fun in the sun activities. (We heard later that the sugar free Hershey’s syrup was really gross!)
It’s going to be a great week! We’ll keep you posted. |
